November 13, 200321 yr Agreed to an extent Tc0d- They all seem a bit raged to me...as I keep responding to Ivan's posts.."so fucking what, dude? They're soldiers, part of their job description is to die if nesseccary (and sometimes if it's not nesseccary) Shit, man, I did my stretch, deliberately going infantry, deliberately going airbourne, deliberately going RIP...I KNEW every choice I made related to training increased the liklihood I'd die before I could take advantage of the G.I. benefits....so what? That's part of the fucking job! If you wanna play with the big dogs, you gotta know you got a chance of being bitten yourself. As for the pics themselves...think some news shots are going to bother me? LOL...dude, I was less than 30 feet away from an idiot who blew himself up in Storm...he, and two friends, decided a MLRS delivered antivehicle mine was a "dud" because it had not gone off when a T72 ran over it...so they started playing catch with it....what had actually happened is it hadn't fallen far enough to have the ribbon "chute" pull the activating pin..naturally, throwing the thing around eventually pulled the pin...the next guy who caught it went *BOOM*...messier than any pic Ivan's gonna post, and definately a death more regrettable than one from actual combat, since it was entirely avoidable.
November 13, 200321 yr I third that, as a G.I myself they make me sick. and another happy customer....

November 13, 200321 yr depends on what he does as a "G.I."...after all, quartermaster supply bitches who sit on their ass in air conditioned warehouses shuffling paperwork and filling supply orders are G.I.'s too..so are amry gynecologists...and believe me, THEY NEVER see a day of field time! BUT, if he's infantry, tanker, combat engineer, or redleg, yeah, old boy needs to find another line of work before someone asks him to do something in a situation where they might possibly shoot back.

We had the same kinda shit in the nam.
November 13, 200321 yr wouldn't know...only read books and heard guys who were there talking about it...since most of them remembered the gook-related casulties better than idiotic mistakes, that's most of what I heard about :) Since most of the casulties in Storm were friendly-fire or self-inflicted stupidity related injuries... Funniest thing about Storm is I was put in for a SS (was downgraded to a Bronze) for identifying and hitting a dismounted target, and got a purple heart for "bleeding in a combat zone" after stubbing my toe on the framework at a showerpoint (they REALLY needed "heroes" I guess)..I know of guys in Storm who got a SS for nothing more than successfully identifying and killing three enemy vehicles during the Battle of Phase Line Norfolk (CNN called this battle "Hell Night"), and officers got put in for the same award for nothing more than being in command of a unit that got at least 5 confirmed vehicle kills. For those who don't know, the Silver Star for "actions above and beyond" is the third highest award you can recieve in the Army...they were handing it out for bullshit back in '90-'91.
November 13, 200321 yr I dont think I shot my m16 once , did take out 1 bmp with a with there own RPG7, my grand father a ww2 vet found that funny since he did the same thing with a panzerscherk and a tiger tank.
November 13, 200321 yr I was a SAW gunner....got to unload a couple drums during Hell Night, but they were pretty pointless...got to do an "area fire" suppression when a handful of IRP tried to use AKs as sniper rifles at dismounted troops when they got cut off from the group of draftees they were trying to prevent from surrendering (that's what got me put in for the SS...my suppressive fire killed two of them for certain...may have been responsible for a couple others...we killed five of seven in that incident) didn't get to fire any RPG/RPG-7...though I tried to smuggle an RPG-7 and a crate of ammo back in the ammo bin of a brad (failed...managed to get a few other toys back to the states though :) ) and I had an absolute BALL disposing of and destroying ammo to save weight on shipping it back to the States, once it was all over...C4 is an EXTREMELY fun product, followed closely by Thermite...put a quarter block of C4, and two thermites on top of a couple hundred crates of 7.62 warsaw tracers, and you get one HELL of a fireworks show :) For the most p[art, I don't regret any of my time in the military...though I do kind of regret taking the early out program in '92...if I'd transferred stations, and stayed in, instead, I'd probably have gone carreer, and gone to sg o&t school (special groups operations and tactice...the basic school for green beret, delta, and the other shoot and loot groups)
November 14, 200321 yr lame...basic was like an oveblowm boyscout camp where you got to play with guns...if someone whined loud enough, they got sent to "sick call", instead of having a drill get in their face and scream and insult them until they did what they were supposed to despite "the pain"...I REALLY don't understand how the Army expects to turn out decent field soldiers with that sort of B.S. coddling (it's gotten worse lately...I understand they issue "red cards" now...and you can use five a day..getting an automatic five-minute "time out" that D.I.'s can't take revenge for) The only "real" training I went through was RIP and sniper training (as opposed to sniper school..sniper training is a two week course in using long arms accurately and spotting potential spots for a truly trained sniper to use against you...pretty worthless, actually, but still fun) I went through a "low stress" OSUT at Benning for 13 weeks (a combined course for basic training and leg infantry AIT that amounts to USMC basic training except that "low stress" means Drills may NOT lay hands on you outside of hand to hand combat training and bayonet training, nor may they use "direct insults" when getting in your face..I understand that ALL military basic training courses now follow these rules..it was "experimental" in '88, with some groups being "low stress" and some being "high stress"), got a 3 day pass, then reported to jump school at Benning...completed that, got a 5 day leave, then reported to RIP at Harmony Church (again on Benning)..after completing RIP, I was assigned to the 3/75 at Stewart, was there for two weeks, then was detatched TDY for training at Campbell in air assault and rappelling...that course was physically rough, but almost a vacation compared to Jump and RIP...after I got back to Stewart, I was sent to Panama for the "cleanup" end of Just Cause...mostly boring, with occasional "scuffles" with anti-American troops, by the time I got there...four months after returning from there, I was sent to sniper training because I'd scored "expert" on all three of the BRM qualifications I'd taken with the 16, not because I wanted it, or was anything special..my C.O. and Ssg put me in for it. When Saddam invaded Kuwait, we were told 3/75 would not be going, that 1/75 out of Benning would go immediately, and 2/75 would be moved to Germany in preperation to going over...we were supposed to stay home...myself, and half the guys I knew, imediately went and volunteered for change of station to get over there...which resulted in me going back to Benning for two weeks of "mike school" (getting familiarized with the Bradley), and I got sent to the 1/16 Mech INF when I completed that...got sent to Shield, arriving about a week before 3/75 was activated, and sent over (I'm STILL kicking myself in the ass for that) That answer your question? I wasn't quite clear on whether you meant "was your training a bitch?" or "what schools did you go through, and when?"
November 14, 200321 yr ROFL...nope. Basically, I was young enough, in good enough shape, and crazy enough, to regard most of my military time as one big game...I enjoyed it :)
November 14, 200321 yr no chance to...spent 8 months and three weeks of the 9 months and 2 weeks I was in country in the field with nothing but guys around...never stayed in a city any longer than it took to drive through, and maybe to an after action assessment, aside from one settlement that had been completely abandoned before we got to it...nothing there but stray dogs, rats, and some boobytraps...and when I wasn't in the field, we were held at the "MGM-Grand" (Al Khobar "bedouin complex"), fully fenced in, and prevented from leaving by heavy guard from both US and Saudi sides...only poon I got the whole time I was out there was when I hooked up with a little freak of a signals PFC from the 1st Cav who went by the name "Tigger"...bitch didn't have much in the way of titties, but she could suck a golf ball through surgical tubing <grin>...unfortunately, I wasn't the only one she was sharing this talent with, so I got a two week run of penecillin for that little fling <grimace>

December 3, 200321 yr yeah...she can't decide if it's gross that I had an STD once, or just funny that I caught one by being dumb enough to get my dick sucked by a known skank. Since it was before I was married, she really don't care about it.
